Psychological, Neuropsychological, and Educational Testing

Psychological testing, psychoeducational testing, neuropsychological testing, and an assortment of social, behavioral and developmental assessments can provide a comprehensive clinical picture to help you and your clinician get to root causes and explanations underlying your concerns. This facilitates the prioritization of interventions and treatment, and it helps with the coordination of care and ancillary services to help other professionals understand the big picture and provide integrated services.

Independent Education Evaluations (IEE’s)

Clarity also conducts Independent Education Evaluations (IEE’s) for local school districts when a parent requests that their child be evaluated outside of the school system by an independent, unbiased clinician. The public school system must approve the IEE in advance and will pay a capped fee for a specific scope of testing directly to Clarity. If parents wish for Clarity to assess other areas not identified by the school system’s authorization letter, these costs are the responsibility of the client/parent. If you would like Clarity to conduct your child’s IEE, simply inform the school and they will provide you and Clarity with an authorization letter to move forward.

The Evaluation Process

The time commitment for testing varies depending on the reason for the evaluation. The first step of the process is a testing intake session where we gather information from the examinee and their parents, if applicable. We then use that information to select a unique battery of tests to evaluate the presenting concerns.

Next, an in-person testing session is scheduled. For adults, this can range from approximately 3-5 hours or more in one day. For children, we often divide the on-site testing sessions over two days of 2-4 hours (with breaks) each day, depending on the child’s stamina and other characteristics. Parents are asked to stay in the waiting room or in close proximity to the office while the child is being evaluated.

Collateral interviews and questionnaires are completed by people who know the examinee well. Once all of the tests and questionnaires are complete and returned, the clinician will score, interpret and integrate the data into a final report with clinical findings, diagnoses (as applicable) and robust recommendations.

Our evaluation process is uniquely thorough and nuanced. Our recommendations are actionable, meaningful and considered by us to be one of the most important aspects of the evaluation and report so that you have a clear path forward in better understanding and addressing the issues that prompted the evaluation with options for appropriate treatment interventions.

Fees

We do not accept insurance for testing. Insurance companies place significant and unrealistic constraints on the measures, time, and approach to the evaluation process that stifles the ability to use multiple sources of data and our clinical judgment to determine the best assessment approach for our clients. Some insurance companies have other time-consuming barriers that include difficult pre-authorization processes, requiring medical necessity justification letters, and phone calls before they decide whether to approve or deny a request. We prioritize spending our time working directly with our clients rather than hours of frustrating communication with insurance companies that often only results in sparce approvals.
